HELIOS GREYHOUNDS

Helios Hounds is located in beautiful Northwest Washington, within view of the perpetually snowcapped Mt. Baker. We breed, show and live with show-bred greyhounds.
We obtained our first greyhound in 1992 from Heather Spak of Helicon Hounds for daughter Emily to show in 4H. "Nike" Hewly Hit The Books introduced us to AKC shows through Emily's participation in Junior Showmanship. The bug had bit! and when the opportunity came up to bring in a stud dog of desired lines from the East Coast we obtained Talos Honor Grades from Sue Lackey of Talos Greyhounds. This wonderful boy was shown to his American, Canadian, and International Championships by Emily. Quite a feat for a young girl then of age 13.

Sue Lackey then sent us a male out of her next litter - Talos Creole Love Call. Shown again by Emily, as well as his new friend, Steven Johnston, this blue brindle boy easily obtained his American and Canadian Championships before his first birthday. After growing up a bit he was campaigned by daughter Emily and handler Steve Johnston. Multiple group winning, he capped off his show career with a Best of Opposite win at Westminster Kennel Club.

When Helicon dispersed their kennel in 1998 we obtained the majority of the dogs and took over responsibility for follow-up on all the previously placed dogs. We then finished championships on several of the Helicon dogs as well as placing numerous dogs.

In 1999 we were able to fulfill our collective visions and Helios whelped our first two litters. With all those puppies we were quite busy.

In 2000 both Chris and I retired from busy medical practices and now devote full time to the dogs and photography.

Eve and Simon at 8 months
In 2001 we expanded our greyhound horizons with the importation of three dogs from the UK. "Eve" - Am/Can/Intnl Ch Wenonah Corneille, JC and littermate, "Simon" - Am/Intnl Ch Wenonah Becasseau came to us in January from Daphne and Anne Gilpin of Wenonah and "Taz" Am Ch Mistweave Morning Glory came from Barbara and Ian Savage of Mistweave Kennels in Scotland.
We are indebted to Heather Spak of Helicon Hounds for our introduction to greyhounds, for our first greyhound, and our initial mentoring. We are also indebted to Sue Lackey for those first beautiful boys and to Joni Lovci of At Heart for sending us Peaches (SBIS Am/Can Ch Helicon Heartstrings) for breeding. But especially we are indebted to Stanley D. Petter, Jr., Owner of Hewly Greyhounds, for his ongoing guidance, and his 50 years of thoughtful breeding that forms the foundation of our lines.

Future plans:

2008: Litter from breeding of Am/Intnl/CA Wenonah Corneille ; also expected breeding of Ch Hewly Helios Hecate .
